Jumpsuit of the Day: Jessie J Finally Wears a Jumpsuit That Isn’t Clinging to her Skin

Her skin-tight catsuits and bodysuits usually put Jessie J on the “worst dressed” lists, but at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards on Monday night in London, she dropped her usual form-fitting ensemble for a slinkier, but much … Continue reading

Jumpsuit of the Day: House of Holland S/S 2012 at London Fashion Week

“Pastel Punks” is the name of Henry Holland’s Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection, which was shown yesterday at London Fashion Week. One of my favourite names in fashion, I had the opportunity to meet the designer himself earlier this year, when … Continue reading

Fall/Winter 2011 Colour Trend: Purple

Colour trends for Fall/Winter 2011 look bright and vibrant. Though some designers stuck to monochrome palettes and prints, many experimented with shades of purple.

Malandrino, Halston and Badgley Mischka at NYFW

In New York, designers draped purple fabrics to create stunning evening wear. Malandrino used a darker shade to embody mystery and sophistication, while the indigo Halston dress gives off a whimsical, toga effect. Badgley Mischka combined shades of red, pink and purple in their flowing gown.

Alberta Ferretti, Versace and Blumarine at MFW

Alberta Ferretti and Blumarine incorporated the bright purple shade of purple reminiscent of Daphne from The “Scooby Doo” cartoon series, while Versace’s single-strap dress is accompanied by purple accessories.

YSL, Balenciaga and Rue du Mail at PFW

In Paris, Yves Saint Laurent and Rue Du Mail used a bold purple shade in outerwear variations, and Balenciaga sent a pair of bright purple pants down the runway.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Alberta Ferretti at Milan Fashion Week

Alberta Ferretti Fall/Winter 2011 RTW at Milan Fashion Week

Alberta Ferretti showed her Fall/Winter 2011 ready-to-wear collection on February 23rd at Milan Fashion Week. Ferretti used strong and vivid colours- bright reds and purples, and electric blues and greens. Models had their hair pulled back and side-swept, and walked the runway in thigh-high velvet boots.

This jumpsuit combines three of my personal favourite design elements in one piece: silk, purple, and asymmetry. The dark shade and reflective shine make it an outfit worthy of any city girl on the lookout for a glamorous and edgy nightlife look. The single long sleeve with the shoulder cut-out gives the outfit a fierce but elegant Roman vibe, and the sash tied in a bow above the model’s hip gives the piece some extra body. Ferretti managed to incorporate draping and gathers into the garment, while maintaining its overall fitted shape– the only thing I’m not a fan of is her choice of shoes for this outfit!

Jumpsuit of the Day: Brooklyn Decker decked out in Berlin

Brooklyn Decker in Berlin, Germany

Brooklyn Decker stars alongside Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman in Just Go With It– a romantic comedy released in theatres earlier this month. Last Monday, at the film’s premiere in Berlin, Germany, Decker arrived in this purple silk jumpsuit, slightly upstaging her fellow cast members. Aniston on the other hand opted for an LBD…but with ruffles, frills, a lace cutout and asymmetrical sleeves it was far from drab.

Decker’s jumpsuit was designed by MaxMara. Heres’ how it looked on the runway at his Spring/Summer 2011 RTW fashion show in September at Milan Fashion Week:
