Fall/Winter 2011 Colour Trend: Purple

Colour trends for Fall/Winter 2011 look bright and vibrant. Though some designers stuck to monochrome palettes and prints, many experimented with shades of purple.

Malandrino, Halston and Badgley Mischka at NYFW

In New York, designers draped purple fabrics to create stunning evening wear. Malandrino used a darker shade to embody mystery and sophistication, while the indigo Halston dress gives off a whimsical, toga effect. Badgley Mischka combined shades of red, pink and purple in their flowing gown.

Alberta Ferretti, Versace and Blumarine at MFW

Alberta Ferretti and Blumarine incorporated the bright purple shade of purple reminiscent of Daphne from The “Scooby Doo” cartoon series, while Versace’s single-strap dress is accompanied by purple accessories.

YSL, Balenciaga and Rue du Mail at PFW

In Paris, Yves Saint Laurent and Rue Du Mail used a bold purple shade in outerwear variations, and Balenciaga sent a pair of bright purple pants down the runway.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Yves Saint Laurent at Paris Fashion Week

YSL jumpsuits at Paris Fashion Week

In the YSL Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection shown on Monday at Paris Fashion Week, designer Stefano Pilati included a stunning jumpsuit design that appeared on the runway in both white and black.

The combination of the high halterneck made from sheer chiffon, and the simple and slim-fitting tapered trouser gives the garment sophistication and wearability. Thin belts are used to bring in the waists of both garments, bringing emphasis to their fitted silhouettes. Both are very elegant, however the difference in colour pulls them miles apart. The white jumpsuit could be worn at a lavish luncheon, on a yacht or at a beachside banquet. While it has a soft and angelic look, the black piece is more edgy, and could be worn as attitude-evoking formal wear or classy clubwear. Pilati completed the bold look with a black cape and black peep-toe wedges adorned with multi-coloured stones.
