Fall/Winter 2011 Colour Trend: Purple

Colour trends for Fall/Winter 2011 look bright and vibrant. Though some designers stuck to monochrome palettes and prints, many experimented with shades of purple.

Malandrino, Halston and Badgley Mischka at NYFW

In New York, designers draped purple fabrics to create stunning evening wear. Malandrino used a darker shade to embody mystery and sophistication, while the indigo Halston dress gives off a whimsical, toga effect. Badgley Mischka combined shades of red, pink and purple in their flowing gown.

Alberta Ferretti, Versace and Blumarine at MFW

Alberta Ferretti and Blumarine incorporated the bright purple shade of purple reminiscent of Daphne from The “Scooby Doo” cartoon series, while Versace’s single-strap dress is accompanied by purple accessories.

YSL, Balenciaga and Rue du Mail at PFW

In Paris, Yves Saint Laurent and Rue Du Mail used a bold purple shade in outerwear variations, and Balenciaga sent a pair of bright purple pants down the runway.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Halston at NY Fashion Week

Halston Fall 2011 RTW collection

Designer Marios Schwab used lean silhouettes, revealing necklines and luxurious fabrics for the Halston Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear runway show held on Tuesday in New York.

This slinky silver jumpsuit stood out amongst his array of evening gowns. The all too familiar bell-bottom pant of NYFW works well with the high neck and slim cut-out. The fur jacket paired with the piece gives the overall look some urban edge, but it is unfortunate that the sleeves (or lack of!) of the jumpsuit cannot be seen.
