Jumpsuit of the Day: Louis Vuitton Resort 2010

Last Wednesday, guests (including actress Kirsten Dunst) flocked to The Four Seasons restaurant pool-side in New York City to view the Louis Vuitton Resort 2012 runway show. Vintage floral prints, along with hues of red and blue dominated the runway, which was created using real grass!

American model Arizona Muse evokes an 80s maritime vibe in this navy blue jumpsuit. She looks pretty and poised in the clean-cut, wide-legged, sleeveless garment, which is bold and refreshing with a column of big, white buttons leading up to a refined peter pan collar.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Issa at London Fashion Week

Issa

Designer Daniella Issa Helayel presented the Issa Fall/Winter 2011 collection at London Fashion Week in February. Lots of eyes were fixed on the runway, as the brand gained worldwide recognition after Kate Middleton donned an Issa design when announcing her engagement to Prince William!

The collection featured a mixture of prints and colours, and this jumpsuit style made an appearance on the catwalk in a rich, solid orange-chocolate shade, as well as in a funky black and white pattern. The garment’s elegant drapery, high boat-neck and long, flared pants combine together beautifully!

An I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community fashion show will be held on May 21st, offering local, emerging designers the chance to  have their pieces showcased for free! The field of fashion design is hard to break into, and struggling designers in Dubai can now lend their pieces for a runway show, as well as donate them to a silent auction. Proceeds will be given to the Senses Care Home for children with special needs.

Last week, Khadra Osman and Sevan Kouyoumjian of I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community were interviewed on the TwentySomething show on Dubai One. Sevan is also a designer (her brand is called SevSev), and her pieces will be used in the show! Jump to 1:49 to see a gorgeous teal-coloured jumpsuit from the SevSev Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Students in Ryerson University’s fashion program show designs at Wanderlust fashion show

Proceeding Mass Exodus 2011: Zenith+Nadir, where graduating students in Ryerson’s fashion design program showcased their collections, the fashion school held another fashion show this Wednesday. Second and third-year students in the fashion design program unveiled some of their dresses at a runway show that took place at the Arcadian Court in downtown Toronto.

During the eveningwear show, it became clear that students learn a lot in two to three years of studying fashion design at Ryerson University. Designs were largely experimental; many students incorporated lace, trails, tiers, drapes and cut-outs in their dresses. Some were hits and some were misses, but overall the event showed a range of young fashion talents.  Here are some of the student designs that made their way down the catwalk: Continue reading

Ryerson fashion students show their collections at Mass Exodus 2011: Zenith+Nadir

After four years of painful pattern drafting, pin-pricked fingers and popped-open zippers, fourth-year students in Ryerson University’s fashion program showed the results of their hard work with their final collections at an annual year-end runway show on Thursday night.

Held in the Ryerson Theatre, the show was a huge success, showcasing the immense amount of creative talent  developed within Ryerson’s fashion school walls– talent that goes far beyond the quality and appearance of the clothing designs. Everything about the execution was impressive, from the electronic soundtrack of the runway and professional promo video shown in short sequences throughout the show, to the fog and lighting effects that mirrored the futuristic and mysterious concept of the production.

“Canada’s future frockstars,” tweeted Flare Fashion Magazine live from the show. Continue reading

Jumpsuit of the Day: Viktor & Rolf at Paris Fashion Week

Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf showed the world their Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection during the first week of March at Paris Fashion Week. As they walked down the runway, models looked as if they were marching to battle at first, with their rigid,  heavy-duty black garments and red painted faces. As touches of femininity were shown in pleating, floral prints and carefully crafted ruffles, it became evident that models were showcasing a look that fought for a  glamorous-yet-macabre sense of empowerment in fashion.

This jumpsuit is no exception. Its single feathered arm is reminiscent of a Black Swan-esque Natalie Portman fighting to be the best dancer, trapped in a delusional and horrifying state of mind. The perfectly tailored pants meet the fitted top with the use of a shiny, black, almost weapon-like belt, and the model’s red war-paint is reflected in her bright red pumps. Though the net insert adds punk appeal and attitude to the garment, perhaps it could have done without it altogether, and remained a one-shoulder piece.
