Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection for Chanel was shown yesterday at Paris Fashion Week. The overall theme of his runway show appeared to be Parisian glamour meets grunge fantasy, meets the Wizard of Oz. Though he provided audience members with his signature separates, Lagerfeld unpredictably sent a great number of jumpsuits down the runway. Of course, these were nothing like the jumpsuits that were shown by other designers at the fashion weeks in New York in Europe, with gathered pants, wrapped necks, or bold prints. He incorporated the brand’s emblematic black quilted fabric and chic tweed material into some of his designs, and added feather embellishments, leather lining, sheer lace and gothic-style embroidery to others. His jumpsuits generally took a similar shape, however some had zips in the front, while others had oversized collars and cuffed pants.
