For Velvet Magazine: The Indian Bridal "Tikka" Revolutionized

When Karl Lagerfeld showed his Indian-inspired Pre-Fall 2012 collection at Paris last December, I was overjoyed at the sight of bold jewelled and studded head ornaments that decorated the models’ heads. Then, when I saw a similar style of Indian-inspired … Continue reading

Currently Craving: T-Shirt by √FML²

I’ve had my eye on Qatar-based T-Shirt brand √FML² for a while now, but it seems that every time I fall in love with one of their designs, they sell out! The funky and innovative brand produces casual T-shirts displaying  graphics of fashion icons such as Karl Lagerfeld, as well as staple high fashion pieces such as the classic Chanel bag and red-soled Christian Louboutins. Here’s one my favourite designs:

Founded by two students attending the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, the brand has been taking orders online via www.fml-2.tumblr.com. But the good news is, the T-shirts will now be available to shoppers living in Dubai! This morning, s*uce boutique confirmed that the shipment has arrived, and is set to be selling in stores by this weekend!

Accessory Spotlight: Montaigne Runway Gloves

Nasrine Dechache, the designer behind Montaigne, showed her collection at the I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community event that took place in Dubai last week. Models dressed in her funky leggings and embellished tees appeared as if they had dipped their hands into wax or paint, before strutting down the runway.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Keira Knightley for Chanel as “Coco Mademoiselle”

Keira Knightley in a beige jumpsuit designed by Karl Lagerfeld

An ad campaign featuring actress Keira Knightley is set to debut next month. This is her second time shooting for the fragrance (the first was three years ago), and in addition to print ads composed by Mario Testino, the campaign includes a short film, which was just released last week. Set in Paris, Knightley once again plays the lead role, “Coco Mademoiselle,”  this time with an urban chic appeal as she sports a Karl Lagerfeld-designed beige motorcycle jumpsuit.  The garment is perfect for her role, as it embodies the modern  heroine look while remaining consistent with Chanel’s classy, sophisticated and timeless image.

Currently Craving: Karl Lagerfeld’s New Diet Coke Bottles

Noted designer, fashion icon and creative director for Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld has introduced his second line of bottles for Diet Coke- a drink that is rumoured to be one of his personal favourites. In 2001, he reportedly lost 40 kg (90lbs) on a diet consisting of steamed vegetables and Diet Coke. Last April, he launched his first Diet Coke bottle; a collector’s item that disappeared off of shelves soon after it was released.

These are his newest designs, which will be released in select stores this June:

Jumpsuit of the Day: Chanel at Paris Fashion Week

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection for Chanel was shown yesterday at Paris Fashion Week. The overall theme of his runway show appeared to be  Parisian glamour meets grunge fantasy, meets the Wizard of Oz. Though he provided audience members with his signature separates,  Lagerfeld unpredictably sent a great number of jumpsuits down the runway. Of course, these were nothing like the jumpsuits that were shown by other designers at the fashion weeks in New York in Europe, with gathered pants, wrapped necks, or bold prints. Lagerfeld’s jumpsuits were clearly chanel-ified…

He incorporated the brand’s emblematic black quilted fabric and chic tweed material into some of his designs, and added feather embellishments, leather lining, sheer lace and gothic-style embroidery to others. His jumpsuits generally took a similar shape, however some had zips in the front, while others had oversized collars and cuffed pants.
