A new initiative is launching in Dubai, courtesy of the Rotaract Club in Jumeirah, called I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community. Rotaract aims to hold events that raise money for local charities, and this newest project promises to make a difference on a number of levels!
An I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community fashion show will be held on May 21st, offering local, emerging designers the chance to have their pieces showcased for free! The field of fashion design is hard to break into, and struggling designers in Dubai can now lend their pieces for a runway show, as well as donate them to a silent auction. Proceeds will be given to the Senses Care Home for children with special needs.
Last week, Khadra Osman and Sevan Kouyoumjian of I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community were interviewed on the TwentySomething show on Dubai One. Sevan is also a designer (her brand is called SevSev), and her pieces will be used in the show! Jump to 1:49 to see a gorgeous teal-coloured jumpsuit from the SevSev Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
“I like to portray women as confident, independent and feminine….at the same time I like them to be playful and take chances with their fashion, and not take their wardrobe too seriously”, says Sevan in the interview.
The I ♥ Fashion I ♥ My Community fashion show will be held this Saturday, May 21st at Media One Hotel in Dubai Media City. Purchase your tickets online at Time Out Dubai!
