This competition, pioneered by One Wig Stand and Fustany.com, aims to fill the region’s existing fashion hole, as many women in the Middle East who have been affected by breast cancer are unable to find comfortable, affordable and fashionable bras to wear that will accommodate prostheses.
The submission deadline for the cause is now closed, and voting officially begins today! London-based designer Mia Jafari took part in the competition, and her stunning designs are featured in the “Designer Piece Category.” Her design(s) will be auctioned off at exclusive fashion shows in Dubai and Beirut, and if she wins, one of them could be sold in stores across the Middle East in October 2011! Take a look at this gorgeous Mia Jafari bra design:

The bra incorporates a digital print featuring gold gem-encrusted owls with what appear to be green skull-embellished chandeliers on silk satin, with lace detailing on the straps and hem, and a gem sewed on the center of the piece. Inspiration for the design was taken from her popular “Midnight Mojito” scarf and dress. Here are some images of the scarf:
Mia Jafari is a Central St Martins and Goldsmiths graduate, who debuted her “‘Ladybirds ♥ Strawberry Cosmos” collection in 2010. Her bold and vibrant digital prints feature Louboutins, lipsticks, skulls, spiders, gems and more, combining some of the trendiest icons in fashion together in one piece. Her ground-breaking collection is a stylish mix of East and West, and her artistic prints cater to women who indulge in unique and creative high-fashion.

Wide-legged pants and funky necklines were the driving forces behind Cynthia Rowley’s Resort 2012 jumpsuits. She combined feminine prints with edgy silhouettes and bold pop colours, playing into some of the trends forseen for the next few seasons. Norwegian model Kat Hessen modeled the two jumpsuits, bringing a classy, yet youthful air to the art-inspired collection. The first was a high waisted yellow-printed jumpsuit with wide legs, bishop sleeves and a v-neck:
The second jumpsuit was a vibrant shade of red-orange, and featured a narrow slit-neckline and exaggerated wide-legged pants:
In both looks, Kat Hessen carries a plastic clutch, appearing to be a cross between an oversized pill and a sunglasses case; functional quirkiness at its best!

Due to my large Muslimah readership, I’ve decided to add a new feature to the blog. The “Hottest, Modest & Stylish” posts will guide readers to take a more modest and covered-up (but still stylish) approach to wearing jumpsuits that are available in stores, and which follow the latest and hottest trends.
Shop the high street and sport two of the most popular trends of Spring/Summer 2011 by pairing this Aztec print Jumpsuit from Topshop (US$70/AED257) with a green cardigan from Zara (US$12/AED55) and Walberg by Topshop blue suede ankle strap platform wedges (US$140/AED514).
Show your flair for mixing bright colours while pulling off the tribal print trend with bold and edgy modesty!
Part of a series titled “7 Necessities for a Woman to Feel Like a Woman Through the Eyes of a Man,” jewelry designer Ted Noten of Atelier Ted Noten has designed the Dior 001- the ultimate spy-inspired product for modern women. The design is based off of the vintage spy concept, where weapons were hidden in cosmetic bags. In this iconic twist however, the makeup (and other fierce feminine necessities) are hidden in the weapon!
The classy white pistol contains a place to keep your Dior lipgloss…
a container for your pills and vitamins…
an antique hairpin…
a hidden USB for the tech-savy…
and, a bar of sterling silver?
Perhaps if the silver bar were made of chocolate, the Dior 001 Gun would be more of use to me. Nevertheless, it would make the ultimate high-fashion gag gift!
The Chanel 001 Gun is also part of Ted Noten’s collection:
The exclusive pieces were exhibited at the Ornamentum Gallery, part of last week’s Design Miami/Basel.
