This competition, pioneered by One Wig Stand and Fustany.com, aims to fill the region’s existing fashion hole, as many women in the Middle East who have been affected by breast cancer are unable to find comfortable, affordable and fashionable bras to wear that will accommodate prostheses.
The submission deadline for the cause is now closed, and voting officially begins today! London-based designer Mia Jafari took part in the competition, and her stunning designs are featured in the “Designer Piece Category.” Her design(s) will be auctioned off at exclusive fashion shows in Dubai and Beirut, and if she wins, one of them could be sold in stores across the Middle East in October 2011! The bra incorporates a digital print featuring gold gem-encrusted owls with what appear to be green skull-embellished chandeliers on silk satin, with lace detailing on the straps and hem, and a gem sewed on the center of the piece. Inspiration for the design was taken from her popular “Midnight Mojito” scarf and dress. Here are some images of the scarf:
Mia Jafari is a Central St Martins and Goldsmiths graduate, who debuted her “‘Ladybirds ♥ Strawberry Cosmos” collection in 2010. Her bold and vibrant digital prints feature Louboutins, lipsticks, skulls, spiders, gems and more, combining some of the trendiest icons in fashion together in one piece. Her ground-breaking collection is a stylish mix of East and West, and her artistic prints cater to women who indulge in unique and creative high-fashion.

The Bras for a Cause competition, pioneered by One Wig Stand and Fustany.com, launched earlier this month. The project aims to fill the region’s existing fashion hole, as many women in the Middle East who have been affected by breast cancer are unable to find comfortable, affordable and fashionable bras to wear that will accommodate prostheses.
Organizers invite artists, students, graphic designers, illustrators, bloggers, breast cancer survivors and influential Middle Eastern figures to participate in the design competition. One of the entry categories is “The ‘Designer Piece’ Bra Design Category,” in which established fashion designers in the region may submit sketches. (Read about the other categories here)
