Jumpsuit of the Day: Topshop Unique at London Fashion Week

Topshop Unique at London Fashion Week

The Topshop Unique Fall/Winter 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection was shown on February 20th at London Fashion Week. Though lots of models throughout fashion weeks in New York and Europe walked the runway robed in animal prints, Topshop designers took a unique spin to the trend and splattered dalmatian spots all over some of their garments. Models were even styled to look like cute, yet chic, pouting puppies!

This jumpsuit was featured in the collection, and could almost pass as a cheetah-printed piece. The steel-grey colour gives it edge, the baggy pants – high waist combo gives it an air of punk glamour, and the monochrome collar adds a school-girl touch. Black boots, gloves and a jacket complement the outfit perfectly.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Mugler at Paris Fashion Week

Nicola Formichetti's designs at Mugler, PFW

Anticipation was high for this  Fall/Winter 2011 RTW runway show at Paris Fashion Week, namely due to the fact that Lady Gaga, close friend of Mugler’s designer Nicola Formichetti, was rumoured to walk the runway. The rumours were correct, and The Fame Monster closed the show with a bang.

However, Formichetti didn’t need Gaga to make his runway show a success. The vampy models did justice to his bold, intricate and sometimes vulgar designs. These two bodysuits encompass two design elements that could in fact speak for his entire collection: skin-tight and sheer. He uses the popular cheetah print in black, and combines it with fur sleeves to create a truly animalistic look. Perhaps at next year’s Grammy Awards, Nicki Minaj will arrive on the red carpet in a sleek Mugler cheetah-printed bodysuit– a step up from the Givenchy disaster she showed up in this year.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Rebecca Minkoff at NY Fashion Week

Rebecca Minkoff Fall/Winter 2011 RTW Collection

It looks like the silk jumpsuit is on its way to becoming an evening-wear trend this Fall/Winter, and as hot as the cheetah-print trend has been this season, newsflash for its haters– it’s here to stay for at least another season.

In design, this piece is similar to jumpsuits from the Carlos Miele collection, shown at New York on Valentines Day. The tapered pant and wrap neck give the silk garment some edge and sophistication, and the three-quarter-length sleeve shows just the right amount of wrist. The outfit is completed by a leather black belt, black wedges and a studded black clutch.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Gwen Stefani for L.A.M.B. at NY Fashion Week

Gwen Stefani in L.A.M.B. at NYFW

Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection was one of the last to be shown at New York Fashion Week. After the models strutted down the runway, Stefani graced the audience with her presence dressed in this cheetah-print jumpsuit.

The flowy material, and the manner in which it’s draped over one shoulder gives a sari effect to the outfit, which is held in place by a black leather belt. The bold colours across a white fabric gives an edgy vibe to the cheetah look; a print that is bold in itself (and clearly a print that will remain trendy  throughout fall; a number of designers at NYFW and even LFW fell back on the print for their garments).
