Jumpsuit of the Day: Ports 1961 at NY Fashion Week

Ports 1961 Fall 2011 RTW

Designer Fiona Cibani drew from menswear inspirations for her Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection that was shown on Wednesday at New York Fashion Week. Though the runway show lacked some femininity and evening wear, the models fabulously worked the work-wear.

This jumpsuit screams wonders to the modern fashionable woman who has difficulty finding her place amongst  co-workers in her male-dominated office. Cibani manages to do justice to the female figure while remaining tasteful, conservative and work-appropriate.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Carlos Miele at NY Fashion Week

Jumpsuits in the Carlos Miele Fall 2011 RTW collection

A collection primarily made up of intricately embellished evening gowns, Carlos Miele’s runway show on Monday at New York Fashion Week was a hit, and amidst flowing skirts, metallic details and fur embellishments, these three pieces stood out from the rest.

Acording to Miele, the jumpsuits were his favorite garments from the Fall 2011 Ready-t0-Wear collection. The gathered pants, fitted waist, wrap neck and long sleeves give them look that is classy, sophisticated and refined, while still bold and statement-making.

The hoods worn with the red and white jumpsuits turned out to be quite popular amongst designers at New York last week;nDonna Karan, Zero + Maria Cornejo and  Chado Ralph Rucci also incorporated hooded scarves in their runway styling.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Halston at NY Fashion Week

Halston Fall 2011 RTW collection

Designer Marios Schwab used lean silhouettes, revealing necklines and luxurious fabrics for the Halston Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear runway show held on Tuesday in New York.

This slinky silver jumpsuit stood out amongst his array of evening gowns. The all too familiar bell-bottom pant of NYFW works well with the high neck and slim cut-out. The fur jacket paired with the piece gives the overall look some urban edge, but it is unfortunate that the sleeves (or lack of!) of the jumpsuit cannot be seen.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Norma Kamali at NY Fashion Week

Norma Kamali Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear

Norma Kamali showed her Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection last Thursday at New York Fashion Week. She is a designer who drifts in and out of the fashion scene, but her vision has remained timeless. In addition to clothing, Kamali has launched footwear, fragrance and cosmetic lines, and even did a collaboration collection for Wal-Mart.

This black lace jumpsuit was part of her Fall 2011 collection. The neckline, bow, fabric and fit make the garment sexy-chic, but unfortunately the flared bell-bottoms take the look from couture to costume.

Jumpsuit of the Day: Diane von Furstenberg at NY Fashion Week

Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2011 RTW

Diane von Furstenberg’s Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection shown Sunday at New York Fashion Week was all about funky prints, monochromes and rich splashes of colour, with an overall ‘retro meets modern glamour’ theme…

…and retro-glam is a perfect description for this black and white jumpsuit from her runway show. The loose pants, long sleeves and a unique neckline-collar combo, accessorized with a gold heart belt, long fur vest and oversized sunglasses creates a youthful but polished look, and the model’s pulled back bun and striking red lips complete the sassy but sophisticated city-girl theme.
